Work-Life Balance

Posted by admin on December 30, 2014

Handling a high-profile job as an attorney in Cheyenne, Wyoming; spending time with her family and maintaining health is important to Heather Shoemaker. But making time for fitness is key to that balance. The class that Heather Shoemaker attends at Flat Mountain CrossFit strives to challenge all its participants to workout with high-repetitions at low-weights. She likes that she gets an intense workout in a short period. Heather Shoemaker of Wyoming says that she is in the best shape of her life due to this class. She sees a lot of people in her class that try to challenge each other to see who can get the best times. Usually these people are highly competitive at everything they do. The thing I like the most about CrossFit, says Heather Shoemaker of Wyoming, is that if you do the workout the way they tell you to, you are guaranteed to get in shape.

I agree that maintaining a work-life balance is difficult as an attorney. And the mom is always expected to spend more time with the kids and maintain the nurturing role of the two parents - provided that there are two. However I find that if I don't make time for myself and going to the gym, everyone suffers. So no matter how little time you have, you gotta keep going!

I agree - gotta get to the gym no matter what. If you start to feel guilty about taking that time for yourself, just remember how depressing it is to NOT workout and how your mood deteriorates and that effects not just you but your entire family, especially the kids who depend on you!

Even though I'm not a mom, I would agree that taking time to keep yourself in good shape improves all areas of your life, family included. Your husband appreciates it I'm sure!

In addition to exercise, your diet is also critical to feeling good. If you don't put the right things in your body, you won't get the maximum benefit from your exercise routine! Not sure if I can add a URL here but check out eatwell.com for more information!

I love my kids so much and it's so hard to take time away from them to spend an hour or two at the gym. But even though it feels selfish, it always makes our lives better because I'm happy. And "When mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!"

What everyone here seems to be forgetting is that it's not just exercise and diet that matters but it's also the quality of your relationships. You have to invest just as much in your relationships as you do into your diet and exercise - that's the biggest piece of happiness. If your relationships are suffering than the stress of that problem will overshadow everything else you do.

Sounds like Bob is Bitter. 8-)

Not bitter, I just see people make this mistake all the time. They focus entirely on diet, exercise, work and neglect the people around them and to their own detriment. I'm a counselor so I see it a lot.

But why did you get into counseling in the first place? Were you in a relationship yourself where you were neglected? Seems like counselors often go into the practice based upon personal experiences. No offense Bob.

You guys are completely detracting from the point of the post. Comments like this are pointless to people actually interested in the subject area. Go to a psychology board and work it out there please. I would like to hear more about work-life balance issues where exercise is concerned. Especially Crossfit, which takes up tons of time. I too am a professional with a family and have a hard time maintaining the balance. But I find if I let the family know in advance what to expect, i.e. I will be gone from 5 to 6:30 Monday and Wednesday so husband please pick up dinner on your way home, kids you'll have to get your homework done without me, etc. it makes everything run more smoothly.
